Are You Productive? Or Just Busy?

Ask yourself, “Since everyone on the planet gets the same 168 hours each week, why do some people achieve so much more than others?” We all eat, sleep, get dressed, go to work, and invest our time in family, friends, and whatever else is on our list ….Yet, some people seem to operate at a higher level, getting more accomplished and living with less stress. Why is that?

I hear this often: “If only I had more time in the day…” or “I try and plan, but there are too many surprises… I don’t even have the time to fix my time management problem!”

Time is precious, and for those who want to achieve something special and specific, they must get a firm grip on how to invest it. There is no point in trying to manage time until you understand specifically what it is that you want, and the timeline to get it.

Study the great ones, and you find a common trait. They have the ability to focus on ONE Thing at a time, and they have learned how to protect their priorities by saying NO to things that take away from their top priority.

How do you define Success? According to Gary Keller, co-author of The ONE Thing,

Are you getting what you want? Answer These Questions:

  • Am I achieving my goals on time?
  • Am I putting certain areas of my life on hold because I’m too busy?
  • Am I where I thought I would by now?
  • Am I fully present when with my family, and friends?
  • Do I feel guilty when working long hours?
  • Am I stuck in a cycle that seems endless?
  • Am I focused at a level that brings my A game all day, every day?
  • What would I do with an extra day each week if I had it? (Seriously – Answer this)

Every day, I work with clients to address questions and concerns about their professional and personal lives. Sometimes they feel stuck, blocked from moving forward, like something is broken, or as if there has to be more to life than the redundant daily grind. They want more time for a personal life without sacrificing results at work. It’s a common theme, and a growing concern.

Whatever the case, the secret sauce is the SAME: It’s having prioritized goals, mapped in sequence, and intense focus… It’s tackling ONE thing at a time… and it works EVERY time.

Mike was a true mentor to me. He is a fantastic and dedicated leader. He taught me how to grow my business profitably, and sustain growth without sacrificing our ability to perform and serve our customers. Mike is truly a person who is passionate and cares for those around him. He has taught me so many things during the time I worked with him and these skills go on today. I truly miss working with him, and he has touched my life in such a positive way. I hope one day I can repay him for what he has done for me. From what I learned from Mike, I am able to “pay it forward” to our future generations of our company, thanks Mike!
